Bustle on the main squareFrom morning to late in the evening many children either guests or living in Kecskemét have a range of different programmes to choose from. For many years the tent of the Alternative English School has been one of the most popular places where the youngsters can test their knowledge through different quizzes and contests. The excitement of the games are further enhanced since the results are only announced on the last day of the Festival and only then do the winners receive their prizes. Those interested in handicraft workshops are to go to the Youth Centre in Kecskemét while the more adventurous can try old games like walking on stilts. At the VIII. Children's Meeting there was even a climbing wall set up and the bravest could test their strength and courage. In the IT tent — set up with the sponsorship of the Ministry of Information Technology and Communication — several computers were placed at the youngsters' disposal to e-mail to their parents or chat with their friends back home, or just browse on the Internet. In 2006 the biggest success of the festival was the 'European Music Square' On the main square of the town there were 24 music benches symbolizing the member states of the EU. On each bench one could find useful information about the country and could listen to its traditional music for half an hour. These benches are becoming a regular feature on our festivals due to their great success. They help to improve tolerance as they also serve as meeting points for children from different countries. In 2006 the velocipede show, organised by Albert Leskowsky was also a big hit. The velocipedes were ridden by people in old costumes. A unique idea also became very popular amongst the citizens. A young architect designed a 'swinging boat' which was set up behind the Big Catholic Church of Kecskemét. The creation of this swinging boat needed cooperation of various volunteers and other institutions and companies. To make the boat swing a lot of people had to move together which is a great example for the importance of cooperation. |
